A Night at Art Fusion Gallery

This past Saturday night at Art Fusion Gallery was an exciting one. Two of my friends are exhibiting there. The place was packed. The art was fantastic. I love seeing so much talent in South Florida.

Charlotte Sundquist (founder of the South Florida Artists Association) and I drove down to Miami with Gisele Haselbarth, one of the artists exhibiting that night. Her Abstract photography was bold and surprising.

LeeAnna Yater’s Fiber art is colorful and unique. She is exhibiting a new body of work completed in 2008.

I wish them both a whopping success.

Painting on unprimed canvas

I was recently inspired to paint on unprimed canvas. I saw a series of paintings on my last trip to Wynwood in Miami that were painted this way. I had some very thin linen canvas and this is the result. I decided to do a spontaneous loop design almost like handwriting. I like the way the paint gets absorbed into the canvas. I’m not sure about this particular composition but I will do this again. Is it toooo Florida?

This is a Detail

Artist – Len Favara

Many years ago when I first moved to New York City, I met Len Favara. He was an Art Director at Trahey Advertising. Lucky for me he hired me to be his assistant. Trahey Advertising later became Peter Rogers Associates and Len and I continued to work together for 9 years. Back then I was always bugging him because he wasn’t painting. About six years ago he invited me to a showing of his work in Punta Gorda, Florida. He inspired me to get more serious about my work.

He takes everyday people in everyday situations and glorifies them. He brings back a simpler time in Bensonhurst Brooklyn. He is represented at the Presseller Gallery.

Jacklyn Laflamme at Art Fusion Gallery

I’m a little behind in my blogging. I promise to do better.

On May 10th a group of us from the South Florida Artist Association went gallery hopping in the Design and Wynwood districts of Miami. Our friend Jacklyn Laflamme shows her work at the Art Fusion Gallery in the Design District. Her work is fun, vibrant, colorful.

I captured this example of her work from her site. jacklynlaflamme.com Visit her on the second Saturday of the month at Art Fusion Gallery. It’s worth the trip.

Seminar At ArtServe

This past weekend I went to a seminar held at ArtServe. The subject was “Thriving as a Studio Professional”. Bruce Baker was the speaker and I found him to be informative and entertaining. If you are looking to make money with your art he has the tools you need to be successful. He has three CD’s you can purchase on his web site, 1. Your slides & the jury, 2. Booth design & merchandising, 3. Dynamic sales & customer service techniques.

I was impressed. Check out his website.
