Artist Statement
In this new work I’m exploring the shapes of everyday things. There is beauty is the simplest of shapes. Merging them with graphics into a more abstract composition is the power behind my work. I like using bright colors on a black background. The black adds a richness and contrast.
I have two obsessions in my lifetime of work, the mirror image and the checker board and both are represented in this collection. For me the mirror image speaks of this dimension and the mystery of possibly another dimension unknown to us. The Checkerboard pattern grounds the composition. Pulls it all together and adds a graphic quality.
My wish is that the paintings bring on a smile, the unexpected fried eggs, or maybe a fond memory of a shared cup of tea.
